Overview
The 6305 Ethernet Media Converter is a managed media converter that enables delivery of cost-effective Carrier Ethernet services using Fiber-To-The-Premises (FTTP). When located on customer premises, the media converter can be fully monitored from a central management system for faults using the Operation, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) feature. With plug-and play installation, the 6305 converter is an ideal way to connect business customers into a Metro Area Network or deliver residential services to a multi-tenant unit.

Managed Media Converter
The 6305 converter is fully managed over the fiber when connected to an ETEX module hosted in a 6300 Managed Transport System network element or any other Ethernet device supporting IEEE802.3ah. The 6305 converter conforms to all relevant Ethernet First Mile standards. The 6305 converter reports alarms over the fiber connection using the secure OAM protocol. From the ETEX module in a 6300 system network element, the alarms are forwarded to the centralized management system, enabling the operator to monitor the complete network all the way out to the customer’s premises. As the media converter supports the Dying Gasp feature, it is even possible for the operator to distinguish between a power failure at the customer premises and a transmission failure, and thereby avoid unnecessary truck rolls.
Pluggable Optical Transceivers
The optical interface on the media converter is supplied with a slot for SFP pluggable transceivers. This provides a wide range of options for the fiber connection, including Single Mode and Multi Mode, bi-directional transmission over just one single fiber or certain WDM wavelengths for premises where multiple end users share the same fibers.
