Fibcom 7100 Optical Transport System

Fibcom 7100 Optical Transport System (OTS) is an advanced services transport system that supports multiple transport protocols on any port. It combines the most advanced optical networking and services layer technologies on one seamless platform.

Designed to support current Add/Drop Multiplexer (ADM) and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) ring capabilities, the Fibcom 7100 OTS ensures a smooth migration to future packet-based services over mesh networks.

  • Unique and multi-patented system technologies enable true next generation multiservice delivery. An integrated dynamic optical core combined with an intelligent services interface delivers ADM cross-connect and Layer 2 switching capability on a single blade. The optical core meets today's network needs while supporting the ability to effortlessly deploy additional nodes for future expansion via a multi-degree Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM). Expanded ROADM capabilities offer 44 channels of bandwidth in each direction to economically transport the full triple play of voice, data and video. Each one of the 44 channels gives service providers fully integrated ADM functionality on a single blade.

  • An intelligent services interface mimics currently installed ADM rings and Layer 2 aggregation with a simple pair of modules, eliminating the costly implementation of stacked rings, back-to-back boxes between rings and multiple rows of supporting equipment.

The Tellabs 7100 OTS not only addresses current network requirements in a cost-effective, efficient manner, but supports strategic deployment of future native packet-based solutions

CapEx/OpEx Savings

  • Cross-connect functionality on a single blade eliminates need to deploy and manage external ADMs or Layer 2 switches.
  • Fully tunable transponders and WSS-based ROADM modules significantly reduce truck rolls and simplify sparing issues.
  • "Pay as you grow" architecture : a common switch fabric can be added in the future to further enhance the delivery of services.
Increased Network Flexibility and Service Delivery
  • Supports up to 44 channels to provide services ranging from 100 Mbps to 40 Gbps.
  • Multi-degree ROADM architecture gives service providers the ability to provision lightpaths where needed to deliver services and easily respond to unexpected demand in the network.
  • New services can be added with a simple "point and click" through the Tellabs 7194 Network Management System (NMS).
  • Topology agnostic architecture works in linear add/drop, ring or mesh networks.
Simplified Engineering & Planning
  • Network design and future additions of new services are easily planned and implemented.
  • Ability to perform upfront "what if" scenarios ensure that the most cost-effective solution is deployed from the outset.
  • Supports hitless migration from a low cost Optical Line Amplifier (OLA) node to a fully functional ROADM network element.
  • Requires no user-initiated configuration changes to add additional services as the intelligence built into every 7100 OTS network element takes care of all the details.
7100 Nano

Benefits

Small size, ease of installation and increased functionality at the network edge The Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS brings optical transport technology to the edge of the network at a much lower price point than other currently available solutions. The Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS uses a 5RU shelf equipped with all the necessary deployment hardware — power feeds, fiber trough, fans and management connections.

Programmable at the optical layer Using an innovative approach to ROADM technology — “colorless” add/drop — the Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS is able to program any eight of the available 44 wavelengths on the network to any add/ drop port. Combine this capability with service delivery modules that are 100% tunable across the band, and there are no restrictions to provisioning services on the network at the optical layer. Input and output amplifiers are integrated into the ROADM module, simplifying network turn-up and planning. The Tellabs 7100 Nano OTS network element is also fully supported by the current Tellabs® 7196 Optical Subnet Planner and seamlessly interoperates with the Tellabs 7100 OTS at the optical layer (Figure 1).

CapEx/OpEx Savings Upfront network costs are much less costly due to features like the ADM on a blade and Layer 2 switching/aggregation* functionality. There is no longer a need to install or provision a separate ADM or Layer 2 switch*, reducing both cost and physical footprint, while improving network manageability. Operational costs are also significantly reduced via the use of optical network elements, transponders that tune across 44 different channels, “colorless” add/drop ports and an intelligent transport control plane.
